DESCRIPTION:\n\n7 Steps to Safety is a Territory-designed, flexible and child-friendly kit that aims to help families give their children the skills and confidence to feel, and be, safe at home.\n3 hours\n \nFree\n \nThe kit: \n\nprovides information, activities and tips to help families identify circumstances that could place children at risk of harm and to develop strategies to prevent or deal with risky situations\naims to build resilience in children by helping them to gain skills and confidence in their ability to make decisions in a range of situations\nprovides information for families about preparing their children to stay home and be safe\nbuilds on family strengths\nprovides opportunities for families to work together in creating safe and positive environments for children\ncan be adapted to meet specific risk needs of individual families.\n\nThe seven steps are:\nStep 1 – Make your place safe\nStep 2 – Cool tools for family rules\nStep 3 – Feel safe with people\nStep 4 – What’s special about our family?\nStep 5 – Emergency\nStep 6 – Ready yet?\nStep 7 – Make a care plan\nThe kit can be used with individual families, children, parent groups and communities.\nThe workshop\nParticipants will learn about 7StepstoSafety and identify and practice ways they can use it in their work with families and caregivers.\nWho should attend?\nThis is an interactive workshop for anyone who works with families, caregivers and communities and wants to engage them in discussions and planning around children’s safety.\nN.B. Participants are required to print out a copy of the kit  ( https://territoryfamilies.nt.gov.au/children-and-families/7-steps-to-safety )and bring it to the workshop.\nNote re registrations:\nIf registering other staff members, please inform them of the venue address, any parking directions, and catering details (where relevant).\nPlease let NAPCAN know if unable to attend so we can contact people on our waiting list if required.\nFor workshop that is Online: The terms and conditions of this training and certification require that all participants, including online attendees, must have their participation verifiable at all times. This requires that all participants keep their cameras on and remain present in front of their screen for the entire duration of the training. Participants may keep themselves muted unless requested to answer questions by the trainer to verify understanding. This may occur at any point during the training.
