DESCRIPTION:Applications are now open to become the 2027 Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations\nAppointed annually by UN Youth Australia ( https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Funyouth.org.au%2F&data=05%7C02%7Cadmin%40ntcoss.org.au%7Cd9dcf4a759ca4898ec8b08defe48046a%7C1021e39d089c4dbcae1626361697303a%7C0%7C0%7C639227783164808485%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C40000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=46c6x%2FF85Bc6IzdKFjdiIwYxUBuiPHDpoypdcGLRY8s%3D&reserved=0 ) and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Youth Representative spends the first part of the year listening to young people across the country and ensuring their experiences, priorities and ideas reach national and international decision-makers at the United Nations in New York at the General Assembly.\nKey aspects of the role include:\n\nLeading the Listening Tour, Australia’s largest face-to-face consultation with young people aged 12-25.\nTravelling across Australia to hold consultations in schools, youth groups and community spaces.\nMeeting with parliamentarians, government representatives, community organisations, business leaders and youth-sector stakeholders to advocate for youth-informed policy.\nRepresenting young Australians at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, including delivering an address to the Third Committee.\nProducing the annual Youth Representative Report and reporting the program’s findings back to young people and decision-makers.\n\nApplicants must be Australian citizens, at least 18 years old when they apply and no older than 25 as of 1 January 2027. The position is a substantial 12-month volunteer commitment involving remote work and extensive domestic and international travel.
