AADANT Professional Development Forum 2021

Professional Development Training

The Association of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies NT (AADANT) would like to invite you to a professional development forum in Darwin or Alice Springs this October.

We are pleased to welcome Lauren Buckley to provide a half-day workshop on substance use and trauma in both Darwin and Alice Springs.

Lauren Buckley is a Social Worker and Trauma Specialist with over 10 year’s experience working in alcohol and other drugs, and has worked in human services for 17 years. She has a private practice providing consultancy, training, clinical supervision and trauma therapy.

Lauren will present Substance Use and Trauma: a neurobiological approach from 9AM-1PM.

Trauma impacts on the functioning of our bodies, creating stress in the body through dysregulation of the nervous system. Substance use also directly affects the nervous system, assisting users to experience relief from physical symptoms in their bodies. In this workshop, learn how the brain and nervous system works and how trauma creates stress in the body. You will understand why your clients use certain substances and why they keep relapsing. You will learn how to identify fight, flight and freeze patterns in the nervous systems of your clients, and how to better read the body language of your clients during intake, assessment and interventions.

This workshop is designed for clinicians, counsellors, and AOD staff working therapeutically with clients.

The following afternoon, 2PM-4:30PM, will be designed for local organisations to understand new and existing programs provided by other services and continued small workshops.
