Aboriginal Sexual Health Workshop

The Aboriginal Sexual Health Workshop will be held in Mparntwe / Alice Springs on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th of August for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers in Government, ACCHO and community services across Central Australia.

We invite all Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Aboriginal Health Workers, Youth workers, Alcohol and Other Drug workers, Family Violence and other Aboriginal Community Workers to attend this two day workshop.

This Aboriginal-led workshop will bring together our mob from NT and SA to share our experiences, successes and challenges in sexual health for both Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP) and non-clinical Aboriginal workforces in our communities. We know that sexual health can be tough to talk about, so this workshop is designed to increase our practical skills and confidence in talking about sexual health issues inside and outside of the clinic.

Sessions will be facilitated by AHPs and Aboriginal Community Workers to cover topics like:

  • Community stories sharing our projects on the ground (in previous ASH workshops we have heard stories like Mum’s and Bubs days, community STI screening days, Youth camps and more)
  • Health promotion activities and ways to make bringing up sexual health easier
  • Women’s Business session
  • Men’s Business session
  • Sexual Health basics with STIs 101
  • Syphilis success stories
  • Flinders University and NACCHO – Syphilis Point of Care Testing Training

For AHPs and AHWs, you may be eligible for CPD points.

NT Health’s Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Unit and Clinic 34 in collaboration with Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT), Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA) and National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) are bringing together a program that has something for everyone.

By the end of the workshop, you will have expanded your knowledge, picked up new resources to build up your confidence and communication skills to support our community in addressing the syphilis outbreak and have good sexual health.
