Cultural Health and Healing forum

AMSANT –SEWB Cultural Health and Healing forum on 25-27 October 2022 in Alice Springs.

We are currently working with Batchelor Institute to finalize the 3 day program

There are key questions driving this forum discussion:  

How does cultural health and healing practices support SEWB, AOD and Mental Health/and or PHC for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the NT?

What does this mean for our workforce?

How can we support the workforce in their roles in regard to cultural health and healing practices – what is in and out of scope? And how should learning be supported.

What does a client pathway look like when cultural health and healing is embedded in our health practice?

Day 1 will enable participants to discuss these questions – which may then change! To share current promising practices and get to know each other.

Day 2 will build on day one, but is driven by the participants for example they may wish to split into male/female, older/younger, family groups etc. this will be led by the elders in the room.

Day 3 will continue discussion while sharing back what we have heard so far for meaning making and sense checking.

Potential to plan next steps.

The forum is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff/community only.

We will prepare a report with Batchelor Institute and discuss with participants how this should/could be shared.
